a ? an ?

a 는 consonant sounds 앞에 쓰입니다. 자음 소리.
an 은 vowel sounds 앞에 쓰입니다. 모음 소리.


h 로 시작하지만 발음이 나지 않는 h 의 경우 an 을 씁니다.

an honest

u 로 시작하지만 발음이 ju 로 나는 경우 a 를 씁니다.

어떤 level 보다 높은 것을 이야기함.

children above the age of 5.

number 앞에는 쓰지 말것. 대신 over나 more than을 쓸 것.

The paid out over 3 million pounds.
He saw more than 800 children, dying of starvation.

absent from

meeting, ceremony 나 place 등에 없었을 때 쓰는 말

She was absent from the committee.

absent from 은 formal 말투. 대화 속에서는 not at 을 씀.

She wasn't at Molly's wedding.

accept

무엇인가를 제안 받은 것을 accept 한다면 하기로 동의한 것.

If she accepts the advice, she feels happier.

만약 무엇을 하기로 accept 한다면 agree 를 쓸 것.

The princess agreed to go on television.

어떤 상황이나 사람에 대해 용납/인정 recognized that it cannot be changed

The astronaut accepts danger as being part of the job.

싫어하는 사람을 용납할 수 없다의 의미로 쓸 때엔 cannot stand 와 cannot bear

She said she couldn't stand him.

except와 발음 헷갈리지 말 것.

accept : 억셉트
except : 익셉트

acceptable

만족스럽거나 거부하지 않을때

To my relief he found the article acceptable.

사람이 무엇을 하기에 acceptable 쓰지 않음. willing 을 씀.

Ed was quite willing to let us help him.
